Café Sessions
Café sessions provide a more informal setting for education. These are announced by the Café Session Coordinator and generally occur once or twice per month year-round on a Thursday afternoon at a local coffee shop. Sometimes there are simply discussions where each participant brings one or two items to discuss. The items can be images, books, equipment, travel reports, questions – anything photographic. There is usually a range of expertise among the participants and the discussions provide excellent learning opportunities.
At other times, there will be a short meeting followed by a time for taking pictures on a specific topic. The same group then meets 2 weeks later to discuss the images captured. The learning opportunities are two-fold. First, the assigned topic might broaden one’s thinking about how to approach a new subject. Second, the follow-up discussion provides constructive critiques, prompts questions, and reveals how others approached the assignment.
The cafe sessions are limited to about 10 members on a first come basis. They are popular and fill up quickly.
